Mood board and genre/ first ideas

Trailer scenes/storyboard

1) Opening scene - Camera follows the main character from behind as he passes out mail to workers at their desk. The only sound you hear is the fuzzy/quiet music from his earphones.
2) the same music continues into the studio and title animation.

3) He then hands some work to his boss who then makes a snide comment about him listening to his music on the job.
4) Cuts to a different scene where he is getting into his car and notices someone staring at him, then cuts to another scene where he notices someone watching him.
5) Then another scene where two dark, strange characters with their faces covered stand in front of Seth (the main character). This is an important scene as this is the first aggressive/scary incident with Seth and his hunters.
6) over the top of these scenes is the old records keeper explaining the conspiracy in brief. or will have a music piece playing. (music = Imagine dragons - Gold)

Recreated teaser trailer

After being shown a number of trailers for new films we individually had to pick one to decrease in length but make it as entertaining as the original version. We were able to pick from films such as: Suicide Squad, Kung Fu Panda 3 and a few others.

I chose to create a teaser trailer for kung fu panda 3.

I started by watching through the original trailer and started to mentally pluck out parts that made me smile or i thought was vital to the trailer.

I also wanted to include the original title animations as i saw it as vital information and it flowed nicely through the trailer.

I used 3 different parts of music in the trailer. At the start i used a heavy and exciting piece of music often used in animation films as the start is setting the way for this great warrior and an upcoming great adventure for him.

The music changes when the movies "bad guy" is introduced and it immediately changes to an intense sound and a low key rough tone. At this point the viewer knows the story and is aware of what is to come in terms of good and evil characters.

Then just before the end the major issue of the film is addressed where it is said what this "bad guy" is working towards, which is to wipeout the newly discovered race of pandas.

The music then changes to up-beat happy music during a funny part of the trailer with Po and the other Pandas involved. The trailer ends with a title animation and a high point in the music.

I think the trailer still attracts the original target audience as it involves many funny moments including awesome looking characters. It also sticks to the story and makes it really easy for kids to know whats going on. As the good characters are shown in a good light and the bad characters shown in darker environments and the main story situation is introduced.

Below is a table explaining certain camera shots representing different genres.

The table also includes the major camera angles and explains them.

Recreated DVD cover

To make my DVD cover the first thing i needed was a template to work from which i found in google images.

After getting the template I located my movie poster and used that as the front image on the cover for my DVD case. But i edited it slightly by moving the title to the top of the photo and brushing out the original title. I also added the age certificate on top of the image.

Then i had to make the margin separating the front from the back. For this i decided to keep it simple and go with a black background, with the title and small picture of the main character.

The last part to do was the back cover. To help me with the back I used the original DVD cover for the film as inspiration. At the top of the back cover i used a enlarged photo which i thought represented the film well. I used a black background as well and copied the plot summary on to the back. I also included information on the film such as running time, language and other requirements for a DVD cover to include.

The finished DVD cover:

Star Wars The Force Awakens trailer review

The trailer starts off showing the new "good" characters to the franchise and the new "evil" characters with just a few camera angles, then introduces the dialogue from both sides. We are then thrown into some fast moving action shots showing the classic Millennium Falcon.

We are then shown Harrison Ford as Han Solo briefly to excite fans of the old films who will be able to see one of their old "hero's" in the film. We then go onto see other old characters such as; R2D2, Chewbacca and Liea.

There is very little storyline given to us in the trailer, the reason for this is that one of the most iconic franchises are being carried on from 1977. As it is so popular we and Disney do not want too much given away. As this film is long awaited.
