Short Film Poster and DVD cover

Post_24
01/12/2015

The poster is used to show the three main characters Jake, Max and Emily.

It also shows a row of lockers on either side which shows off the setting as a college.

On the right side you can see the slogan of the film as 'The Professor' is the evil spirit haunting the three friends.

The dark effect also shows the film as a horror, as it give it a creepy effect.

The DVD cover uses the poster image as the front/main image on the DVD case.

The front also explains the movie in a short sentence. And lets you know what else the film makers have done.

The back of the case includes one main image used in the film as the background. The back also features three important images of the film which i, as the editor, took out of the film and passed them onto who was making the DVD cover.

The back also has written down the roles of the crew and a short blurb which is used to get the potential viewer interested.

Analysing Genre

Post_22
11/11/2015

Comedy

Conventions - Usually involve 2 or more characters who have different personalities, and because of this start off the film disliking one another and towards the end becoming best friends or considered family.
- Throughout the film the characters are usually paired together in wacky and funny scenarios.

Connotation - Comedies will have a straight to the point name such as, Anchorman.
- the trailer will usually show one of the funniest parts of the film and the character/s interacting with other characters in the film.

Representation - In The Heat the first two scenes show off both the main characters individually with Bullock who is a 'by the book' FBI cop who is hated by her co-workers for being ahead of them all and showing them up. And McCarthy who is working as a small time rude, unconventional and hilarious cop. And we are shown throughout the film the two very different cops go from being funny individuals to a hilarious duo.

Stereotypes and context - These characters are definitely stereotypes of main characters in a comedy film, simply in the way that they are so different and funny in their own way, but also realise that they need each other and we realise that they are even funnier together.
- The characters are some how pulled into a massive plot and overcome it in a unconventional and witty manner.

Posters

The main character/s are the main feature of the poster interacting with each other in a funny way usually pulling a stupid face.

Trailer

The trailer will show of the characters exchanging jokes at one another which will involve the main character/s. And will also involve some of the characters involved in a fast moving action scene or in an awkward encounter.

On the other hand an Adventure film will most of the time involve an unlikely hero mixed in with a group of others to travel far together and strengthen their bond. This is shown in the hobbit.

Names of these films are usually used to reflect the main character, such as Percy Jackson and then a sub title giving a rough idea of the adventure itself, like the Sea Of Monsters. The trailer will show off the landscape of the film and 'the gang' of main characters challenging the obstacles thrown at them.

The start of the film often shows the main character in sort of 'underdog' style and then we are shown the character conquering the adventure and getting to know his fellow travelers.

The Poster often shows the main character and other major characters surrounded by the obstacles that come with their adventure.

During the trailer we are shown the landscape of the adventure and the group of the characters working together to overcome a particular challenge and maybe the characters almost facing death.

Audio poster

Post_21
09/11/2015

We were asked to research and prepare an attractive poster explaining and evaluating sources of audio in my poster i focused on: AudioBoom, Soundcloud, Audible (audio books) and the Radio.

On the poster i talked about each of these audio sources individually and focused on how people use them and why.

Below is my finished poster.

It was quite hard to come up with 200 words on this poster as i had never used any of these except listening to the radio in the car. But after some research i was able to see what each were used for.

Movie poster

Post_20
03/10/2015

After we were given the task of making a movie poster we had to choose what movie we would make a movie poster for. For mine i chose Saving Private Ryan.

The first thing i had to do was to find a background for my poster on google. So i went for the white graves of Americans who died in WW2.

After getting my background and adjusting it with both size and style i began to work on my next image. In my opinion the most iconic part of the film i had to include it.

After cutting the image so it had a transparent background using the 'eraser' tool i tried to fit into the background.

I then added in anther image. i needed this one to represent the urgency of the film so i went for the point where one character carries another of the battlefield.

After cutting this i mage i added it to the background.

After adding all the images i had to edit the main whit cross in the image by adding the title to it and some effects to give and old destroyed look.

This is my final piece.

Saving Private Ryan poster analysis

Analysing two posters from the film Saving Private Ryan.

The genre of this is War/Action this is reflected by the 4 men on the poster in military uniform. And the silhouette of a soldier holding a gun.

The style of the poster is quite dull but strong. With the dull colours resembling the darkness of war, but with the silhouette of the soldier and the 4 main characters it gives across a powerful image of war.

The target audience is adults.

This poster compared to the main official is much darker and a lot more emotional, but the genre that comes across is still War and Action due to the dark setting and a group of soldiers. Both posters also use the same silhouette.

Target audience is adults.

PHOTOGRAPHING MY CD DESIGN

Post_16
13/10/2015

I took quite a few photos in the 2 hour session, but i do have a favourite.

I like this picture for a few reasons. One, it already looks quite professional. and it could serve well as a background for my CD cover. I also like how the top of the image is brighter and a little blurred and as it goes down the image sharpens and becomes a bit clearer. I found this in the underground gallery on St Stephens Road in Norwich.

Photoshop font

13/10/2015

Today we had practice making fonts in Adobe Photoshop.

We started with a guided task. First we had to find an image of a beach on Flickr.com, this was our background. And I then added a white layer which would have the word "HAWAII" embedded in it.

Below is the finished design.

We then were given an independent task to create a gold font, this included changing the colour, stroke, texture and more from the original standard font.

Below is the finished gold font.

MOODBOARD

Post_14
12/10/2015

Song: Watch Me
Artist: Silento

With the final image i am aiming for a colourful and immaginative type of artwork. The style will be illustration or a photo of a person/people in a illustrated form and the genre of music is Pop-rap.

My idea does match the immaginative side of Silento's official artwork. Below is the official CD cover design.

I will be designing my CD artwork using Adobe Photoshop, I will use it for my font as well.

I think my CD cover will fit a pop-rap style as i will make it look up-beat and exciting.

There isn't much of a story behind my idea, just a few ideas to bring into one.

I will be using props on my CD cover artwork as i want to avoid copyright.

I havn't decided on a particular location to photograph my props yet but wherever i choose it won't be ore than 20 minutes away.

i will probably need around 10 shots to be able to work with, but i won't necessarily use all of them.

Below is my moodboard, this is to put a few of my ideas into one place. This will give you a better idea at what sort of design i am working towards.

CD "WaterMelon"

Post_13
06/10/2015

Today we had our first attempt at creating a CD album cover. And with this we had to pick a style of music for the artwork to represent. For example i went for a pop-rap style cover.

So to achieve this i made the front of the case quite bright and full of colour, i also tried to make it memorable.

With the back i added the title of the artist and a photo of him, i thought to do this as i have seen many pop-rap artist use this style cover.

My CD artwork

Dimensions
Front - 12cm by 11.9cm
back - 13.8cm by 11.9cm (with 6mm or 0.6cm margins)

For my CD artwork I will use two images plus backgrounds and fonts. One on the front and one on the back of my CD case. So I will use 2 pages.

I will try to aim for a illustrated design or a photo of a single person.

My target audience is aiming for fans of pop-rap, this includes artists like Jason Derulo and Jay-Z.

I intend to make my artwork colourful and with an interesting design.

Album covers

Post_11
06/10/2015
In this blog I will be looking at different album cover styles and showing examples of them with their individual information.

Band Photo

Genre - rock
Release date - 27th July, 1979

I think the cover is relevant to the target audience as it gives a "hardcore" feel to the CD which is one of the things rock does well.

I think it is successful, I like it because each band member has their own personality shown in the photo.

The font is used to good affect at the bottom of the cover and has a sort of "hellish" look.

Singer photo

Genre - Pop/soul
Release date - 26th May, 2014

If you think of Sam Smith as a soul artist then this cover definitely appeals to the target audience. But it doesn't have a feel of a pop album.

I think its a bit too simple and plain, but it does match the music that Sam Smith is known for.

The font is simple and has a smart look to it, I think they have used the font to introduce the smoothness of Sam Smiths music.

Illustration photo

Genre - Pop
Release date - 20th September, 2013

I think this is relevant to the target audience as its bright, loud speaking and looks fun, which is what pop is all about.

I really like the artwork as its bright, interesting and full of colour. Also the illustrated tattoos shows of the album very well.

They have used the font as a bold clear introduction for Jason Derulo. The tattoo font is also used well to keep the theme of the album.

Favourite CD

Do you like the cover artwork and why?

Yes, I like the covers artwork as it is different, funny and its a memorable image, when people are shown this photo they will remember it. And its a unique photo; it doesn't really look like a traditional CD cover.

Does it matter what the album cover looks like?

No, not necessarily what it looks like, but I think the artwork definitely needs to represent the music on the CD, and give a unique touch.

JME - Integrity

When choosing music, would a special edition or extra artwork entice you to buy it?

It depends on whether I really like the first edition of the CD or not, for example if JME released a special edition i would buy it.

How do you buy most of your music?

CCN media video

Post_08
02/10/2015

Before the CCN media radio advert (post_05) we had to create a CCN media video. In which we focused on social media used by the college (e.g. Facebook).

The first step of the video was to create a storyboard for our video. We split the storyboard into different parts, which were used to show off particular parts of the colleges media, such as, one part was used to look at how CCN uses Facebook, so we filmed the their Facebook page being visited by a student, and showing how they interact with the CCN Facebook page, for example liking and commenting on posts, events and images.

Then we had to consider which camera shots to use for each segment of the video. What i mean by this is varying filming points so each part of the video didn't look the same as the last part, this gave the video a lot more variety.

The next step was to put the storyboard into a visual video. Most of the camera work was done indoors using a computer screen as our main point of interest, for example we filmed a student watching a youtube video uploaded by CCN on the computer. We also filmed a student accessing the college Twitter page on their mobile device.

The final step of the video was to edit it, we were aiming for each scene pieced together with transitions, with background music.

Below you can find our finished video.

Another task we were told to complete is produce some primary research (research provided by yourself). To do this we came up with a questionnaire of 10 question based on Media Access to ask the rest of the class.

We used a range of different questions from: "how old are you?" To questions like "what devices do you use to access media?"

After gathering the information we were told to put the results into an info-graph, which is basically a page of information, diagrams and graphs all put into one piece.

Below you can find my finished Info-graph.

Evaluation
